On Saturday, October 4, the ABCD Study was present at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam during the national Weekend of Science. This annual event gives children and adults the opportunity to engage with science and technology in an accessible and hands-on way. The theme this year was How does it work?, encouraging visitors to explore how the world around them functions.
At the interactive ABCD booth, children were guided by Meike Vergeer, Dee-dee Gintel, and Tanja Vrijkotte as they learned about their own bodies and health. How tall are you? How strong is your grip? What happens to your heart rate when you run? And what does a blood pressure measurement feel like?
With a hands-on approach, we successfully sparked curiosity in children about their own bodies. The combination of measuring, moving, and discovering made science tangible and fun—exactly what the Weekend of Science is all about.
